Interview with Carl Nunney

“Sustainability Meets Performance” at Interpack 2017

What are your impressions of Interpack?
It is one of the most important fairs worldwide for those involved in the packaging sector. Our theme, “Sustainability Meets Performance”, generated valuable discussions with our customers and value chain contacts on water-based inks and adhesives for flexible packaging.

What products and solutions did you highlight at the show?
Visitors saw for themselves how sustainability is deeply integrated in our way of working. We were delighted to show them some examples of fully water-based printed and converted packaging produced with our partners in the value chain. One of the items, a pizza tray, contains our water-based Joncryl® FLX ink binder and Epotal® FLX lamination adhesive.
Another highlight was our ground-breaking solution for packaging based on renewable feedstock. Joncryl® Biomass Balance opens up new opportunities to improve sustainability throughout the value chain – water-based inks containing renewable raw materials without the need to change printing and/or converting processes.

Did the fair provide an opportunity for exchange of knowledge leading to further advances in technology?
On May 8, we held a seminar entitled “Packaging for the next generation” in cooperation with and for our value chain partners. The participants gave their views on water-based technologies and discussed how brand owners can reduce the carbon footprint of their flexible packaging today and in the future. Some inspiring ideas were put forward.
