Get a head start with CMR-label-free amino resins

We support our customers in developing more sustainable solutions. Thus, we enable them to produce CMR-label-free paints and coatings with our comprehensive portfolio of amino resins.

Due to new European Union legislation taking effect on January 1, 2016, all chemical substances containing more than 0.1% free formaldehyde have to be labeled as CMR (carcinogenic, mutagenic, reprotoxic) products. BASF offers three amino resins which do not require special labeling: Luwipal® 066 ULF is a newly developed, Hexamethoxymethylmelamine (HMMM) resin for industrial and automotive coatings; Luwipal® 044 ULF a Hexabuthoxymethylmelamine resin (HBMM) for wood coatings; and Plastigen® G ULF for coatings for plasticized surfaces, e.g. for furniture and flooring. These products expand BASF’s portfolio of CMR-label-free resins.

BASF offers additional resins containing only a small amount of free formaldehyde of 0.1% to 0.3%. Applied in a formulation, these amino resins likewise enable customers to develop nearly CMR-label-free paints and coatings. Among these products is Luwipal® 018 LF, a new butanol-etherified resin specifically designed for automotive coatings.

Through research and development, BASF is striving to further extend its range of low-formaldehyde resins for paints and coatings in order to meet customers’ demands.
